Carolyn Dawe

Swim Lead (ASA Lvl 2 Swim Coach)

Background

I think it can be safe to say that Carolyn loves swimming! This started at 4-months old and she hasn’t looked back since! Her passion for swimming can be seen on many levels – she is a teacher, coach, an ASA tutor, volunteer, Masters swimmer and works for the national governing body with operators across the North helping them to develop their learn to swim programmes.
Carolyn has been lucky to have worked with a broad spectrum of swimmers over the years in a number of roles from adults nervous in the water, international triathletes, to national swimmers and world championship synchronised swimmers. These provide her with a wide knowledge and experience base across the aquatic disciplines. She is surprised daily by the determination and self-motivation of swimmers under her instruction.
In her spare time, swimming also plays a large part. She has swum competitively for over 20-years and she continues to train on a regular basis. She has also been involved with national and international events as a member of the British Swimming/ASA Event Management Teams for the last 9 years. This has included roles at 2 Commonwealth Games, the London Olympic and Paralympics and many more national events.
Carolyn is an ASA tutor, she has her ASA Level 2 in Teaching Aquatics, National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches, is a member of the Register of Aquatics Professionals and the Institute of Swimming. She is currently working towards her Level 2 certificate in coaching open water swimming.

Coaching Philosophy

I feel it’s very important for athletes to understand and feel what they are doing in their stroke and how one part of the stroke impacts another. I encourage all swimmers to try out different styles as no two swimmers swim the same.
To improve in the pool and open water, I believe it is essential to understand and enjoy the training behind the race. I like to offer variety within my sessions to ensure that all swimmers can benefit from every session and enjoy it.
