Tom Elphick

Triathlon Coach

About me
I have always been involved in sport and being active outdoors. My first passion is for swimming, I started when I was a baby and stayed with it ever since – find me some water and I will be happy 😊  I got into triathlon after moving to Manchester and started training at the club and my interest went from there to now being Head Coach.

Coaching is what I enjoy doing as I have also taught sailing, kayaking, team building, rock climbing, and orienteering, so becoming a Triathlon coach was a good progression for me and takes me back to what I enjoy doing, which is helping people be active, learn new skills and develop their passion.

Interests
My interests are very much aligned to what I do, swim, bike, run, yoga and generally being active and moving around as much as possible. Swimming is what I always come back to and had a great year last year swimming the three end to end Chillswim events of Consiton, Ullswater, and Windermere. The swimming was fantastic and I won the triple crown.

Coaching Philosophy
At the club I mainly deliver the junior sessions and my philosophy for these is very much that it should be fun and child led. They are there to enjoy themselves as much as they are to learn and develop. Keeping it fun makes it easier and it is not a classroom. The more they enjoy the session the more they will keep doing it into the future.  I think similar applies to the adults, they need to enjoy the sessions and make sure that they are always something that I would do or have done. Overall I want to share my passion for doing sport, even if it doesn’t end up being triathlon.
