John WebbBTF Lvl 2 Tri Coach
I joined Manchester Triathlon Club in 2011 and started coaching in 2016 when I gained the BTF Level 1 qualification. After twenty years of rowing I completed my first multisport event in 2009 – not a ‘proper’ triathlon as the first leg was on a rowing machine, but I soon graduated to the real thing and have raced mainly standard distance events ever since. I particularly love the cycling leg and compete in the local cyclo-cross league during the winter as well as completing events like the Fred Whitton Challenge and the Three Peaks Cyclo-Cross Race.
During my years with various rowing clubs I coached crews of wide ranging abilities on a voluntary basis, something that I found very rewarding. As a rower, I also benefitted from some inspirational coaches who provided a very structured path to exceed previous levels of achievement. After almost seven years competing in triathlon I feel that I have learnt some useful lessons worth passing on to others.
I’m from a non-swimming background, so I am particularly interested in helping developer and intermediate swimmers develop their front crawl technique. Also, given that my day job is in IT, I just love gadgets, data and applications that help athletes plan, record and evaluate their training.
I’m very much at the beginning of my coaching journey, but I’m keen to develop the skills to help those I coach to progress no matter the level of their goals.
