Salford Triathlon – 28th July 2024

For the Salford standard Triathlon it was an early wake up as my mum and dad were volunteering and helping out. Therefore we had to get up at 5am and make our way to Media City.

When we got there it felt around 20 degrees and I think there was a high of around 25-27 degrees when racing. So this was probably ideal conditions for the swim as my swim felt really good, smooth and controlled. Open water swimming at Salford quays always feels good as I swim here quite often and I exited the water first in a time of 20.50 for 1500m.

The Marshalls and the bike course felt clear and was a pretty flat course.

Although it was quite technical so there was quite a lot of turns, massive potholes and it was six laps also consisting of cycling over a bridge and in between a-lot of cones.

As I have not been cycling for that many years and I have recently just got a new bike I was very nervous about racing on it for the first time but I managed to get around in one piece and with an improved 40k time. I am really enjoying my new aero Ribble bike but feels like it may need some more adjustments as I think I could be more comfortable and more powerful on it.

Finally the run felt great for the first 6K but as the run was around 11-12k long it felt never ending in the sweltering heat. Also I somehow managed to get some massive blisters on the bottom of my feet and struggled on the last lap of 4. I finished the longer distance than usual standard triathlon in a time of 2.31.

A hard and intense race but a good experience, thank you for all the volunteers and well done to everyone that raced.
